This group covers the non-Asian restaurants, cafes, bars and food businesses that also appear in a mixed-cuisine food scene, including American diners, pizza, Mexican food, burgers, steakhouses and bakeries. Standard US restaurant norms apply: lunch and dinner service with a quieter stretch between, cards and tap-to-pay accepted almost everywhere, and a tip of 15-20% customary for table service. Fast food and quick-service counters expect payment up front and tipping is optional. Bars check ID for anyone who looks under 30, and the drinking age is 21 nationwide. Many restaurants in this group take reservations online through third-party platforms, while casual and fast-food spots are walk-in only. Sales tax is added at the register on top of the menu price and varies by city and state, so the final total is usually a few percent higher than the posted prices suggest.

Macon is in Georgia, in the Southeast, where summers are long, hot and humid, winters are mild, and afternoon thunderstorms and the hurricane season from June to November can change plans at short notice. Getting around Macon is easiest by car; street parking is metered in busy downtown areas, and most suburban businesses have their own lot. Ride-share apps such as Uber and Lyft operate across Georgia's larger cities, and public transit varies from extensive to minimal.

The server was super friendly and attentive. The burger was perfectly cooked and very tasty. I would definitely recommend eating here. It's too bad I'm not local or else I would frequent this restaurant.

Popped in here for a business dinner because it was Monday and our original destination was closed. Service was prompt and friendly - shoutout to Lexi and Molly, who were great! - and we enjoyed our visit. Drinks came promptly, as did the salads ordered by my compatriots, along with my excellent pot roast. One of their peach milkshakes closed things out. Failed to get pictures of the food but here’s a view from up top where we were seated.

This was our first time eating here and it was very nice. The burger I was huge and good… not hot enough for me though. The food may have been sitting a while before it got to us. My husband had the catfish sandwich special and it was good. The milkshake was amazing! The manager Alani was super funny and helpful when we had questions. Our waitress was nice too.

If you’re hunting for the best burgers in Macon, Georgia, look no further than The Rookery—it’s a straight-up legend downtown. We rolled in super hungry and walked out five-star satisfied. The place buzzes with that classic dive-bar charm: dim lights, brick walls covered in Sharpie graffiti from decades of folks scribbling their names, dates, love notes—you name it. It’s quirky and fun; we even added our own little mark. Feels like you’re part of Macon’s history. We kicked off with the Black and Blue Burger—blackened patty, melted blue cheese, that perfect char. Juicy, bold, not overdone. Then the Ray Charles Burger, their house special: pepper jack, applewood-smoked bacon, a soulful kick that nods to the city’s music roots. Both were cooked spot-on, buns toasted just right. Sides? Those battered french fries stole the show—crispy outside, fluffy in, with this addictive seasoning. We could’ve eaten a basket alone. For balance, the Salmon Cobb Salad hit different: blackened salmon, fresh romaine, bacon bits, avocado, egg, blue cheese crumbles—light but loaded, super fresh. Service was solid. Our waitress knew the menu cold, even if she was a tad short—hey, they were slammed, and she

First visit to the Rookery was a success! The portions are beyond generous! We had to get to-go boxes. The chips were delicious, the tea super sweet, and the service on point. We'd definitely visit again! 07/2026 update: So, it's been a year, and we've gone back several times. We love the vibes and the food! It's a 1.5 hour drive for us and absolutely worth it every time. We go here and Golden Bough Books for a 10/10 Macon experience.
